Abstract

There is a great variety of definitions of the term project. In the broadest sense, „Project is every temporary and structured process that achieves a time-limited goal or a group of goals“. The recognized American Project Management Institute PMI briefly defines a project as „a temporary venture with the aim of creating a unique product or service“.

The term „temporary“ means that each project has a clearly defined beginning and end, as well as temporary organizational structure, while the term „unique“ points to the fact that each project is characterized by specific problems, which often cannot be satisfactorily resolved in a usual way of engaging an organization that implements the project. By combining „temporary“ and „unique“ nature of the project, it can be concluded that a project is clearly defined and implemented gradually, according to pre-defined procedural steps with the aim to effectively develop and efficiently implement the unique scope of complex business or enterprise.
